Name of inhabitants : Cantéens and Cantéennes
Canté is a small village of 200 inhabitants located in the northern department of the Ariège, 50 km south of Toulouse. It is built outside the high-traffic roads that are the RN 20 and secondary road that connects to Saverdun Muret. Much of homes is nestled at the confluence of the small valley carved by a stream and the alluvial plain of the Ariège. These hills on which were built houses are the slope of the first alluvial terrace of Ariège to the west lies the plateau of this terrace followed by a second terrace. *

- Jacques Fournier, bishop of Pamiers (1317-1326) was born in Canté. After being a monk in Boulbon he succeeded his uncle on the seat Fontfroide abbey in 1311.
